What to expect

At your appointment

Call first to confirm facility access and signer readiness. The signer must be able and willing to participate; booking a visit does not guarantee completion.

More about the appointment

We confirm the meeting location and facility entry arrangements, speak directly with the signer, verify identity and determine whether the requested act can lawfully proceed. A booking or travel to the facility does not guarantee completion. We do not make medical diagnoses or medical capacity determinations.

Before we arrive

Your appointment checklist

  1. Confirm facility accessAsk facility staff about visitor hours, entry rules, restrictions and a suitable time; facility permission is separate from booking the notary.
  2. Prepared documentsHave the complete prepared documents and the preparer’s instructions available. Confirm that notarization is actually needed.
  3. Locate acceptable IDLocate the signer’s acceptable identification before scheduling; do not assume a patient wristband is sufficient.
  4. Arrange witnessesArrange required eligible witnesses yourself. Do not assume facility staff will serve as witnesses.
  5. Discuss signing needsCall to discuss communication or physical signing needs before travel. Avoid sending medical records or diagnoses in the general contact form.

Bring your ID. Attend in person.

Each person receiving a notarial act must attend. Bring a current, unexpired passport, driver’s license or government-issued nondriver ID.

Don’t have one of these IDs?

Call before booking to discuss whether another lawful identification method is available. Acceptance is not guaranteed.

Signing and witnesses

The signer must be able to participate

We cannot complete an act for an unconscious or unwilling signer. The notary must be satisfied about the signer’s capacity to execute the record and that the signature is knowing and voluntary. If those conditions cannot be met, the act must wait or cannot proceed; relatives cannot waive them.

The document controls the preparation

A hospital setting does not change a financial POA’s witness rules or turn every healthcare directive into a notarized document. Ask the preparer which requirements apply. An urgent visit cannot replace legal advice or missing required participants.

When should I sign my document?

For an acknowledgment, a document may already be signed, but the signer must appear and acknowledge the signature. A verification on oath or affirmation (often called a jurat), or signature witnessing, requires signing in the notary’s presence. Ask the document preparer or receiving institution which act is required; we cannot choose it for you.

Our role

We handle notarial acts and signing logistics. Bring prepared documents and instructions; we cannot draft documents or give legal advice.

What notarization does—and does not—cover

Bring prepared documents and instructions from your document preparer or receiving institution. We perform requested notarial acts and coordinate signing logistics. We do not draft documents, select legal instruments or notarial certificates, interpret legal effects, or provide estate planning or legal advice. Notarization does not guarantee a document’s validity, enforceability, or acceptance.

Before you book

Your questions, answered.

Call to check availability and facility access. Arrival time and the ability to complete an act depend on scheduling, entry rules and signer participation. Same-day service is not guaranteed.
We cannot notarize the patient’s signature as though they personally appeared and participated. Ask an attorney about lawful options; do not assume a relative can sign or direct a signing for them.
No facility affiliation is implied. Bucks Notary is a mobile service visiting by appointment, subject to the facility’s access rules.
