What to expect

At your appointment

We coordinate your prepared package and requested notarizations. Before booking, tell us how many documents, signers and witnesses will be involved.

More about the appointment

We coordinate identity checks, requested notarial acts, journal entries and the order of signing for prepared documents. Tell us the number of documents, signers and witnesses when requesting an appointment so adequate time can be confirmed. Document names alone do not establish that a notarization is needed.

Before we arrive

Your appointment checklist

  1. Final documentsBring the entire final package and the preparer’s written signing instructions; resolve drafting questions beforehand.
  2. Mark the required actsConfirm which pages require notarization and which require witnesses only.
  3. Arrange witnessesArrange eligible witnesses yourself. Confirm restrictions for each document instead of assuming the same witnesses can serve throughout the package.
  4. Make room to signChoose a quiet space with enough table room and allow all signers time to read before the appointment.

Bring your ID. Attend in person.

Each person receiving a notarial act must attend. Bring a current, unexpired passport, driver’s license or government-issued nondriver ID.

Don’t have one of these IDs?

Call before booking to discuss whether another lawful identification method is available. Acceptance is not guaranteed.

Signing and witnesses

Wills and trusts

Pennsylvania does not impose a universal notarization requirement on every will. A self-proving affidavit is a separate matter from signing the will. Signature by mark or by another person has special execution rules. Trust packages also differ: ask the preparer which documents and notarial acts are needed.

Living wills and healthcare powers

Pennsylvania living wills and healthcare powers of attorney under Chapter 54 require two adult witnesses, but those execution provisions do not require notarization. A person signing at the principal’s direction cannot also witness. Have your preparer confirm any additional requirements, including those for documents intended for another state.

When should I sign my document?

For an acknowledgment, a document may already be signed, but the signer must appear and acknowledge the signature. A verification on oath or affirmation (often called a jurat), or signature witnessing, requires signing in the notary’s presence. Ask the document preparer or receiving institution which act is required; we cannot choose it for you.

Our role

We handle notarial acts and signing logistics. Bring prepared documents and instructions; we cannot draft documents or give legal advice.

What notarization does—and does not—cover

Bring prepared documents and instructions from your document preparer or receiving institution. We perform requested notarial acts and coordinate signing logistics. We do not draft documents, select legal instruments or notarial certificates, interpret legal effects, or provide estate planning or legal advice. Notarization does not guarantee a document’s validity, enforceability, or acceptance.

Before you book

Your questions, answered.

No. A will, trust, healthcare directive and power of attorney are document categories, not notarial acts. Your preparer should identify which signatures need a notarial act and which need witnesses.
We do not provide estate planning, draft documents or supply required witnesses as part of this service. Bring prepared documents and arrange eligible witnesses before the visit.
Yes. Your attorney can provide signing instructions and help coordinate participants. Legal interpretation stays with the attorney; Bucks Notary handles the requested acts and appointment logistics.
